After youΓÇÖve made those four buttons, hide that layer and show the other layer with the original outline pasted into it. Delete every other squareΓÇÖs outline (but do the opposite blocks that you did the last time so that when weΓÇÖre finished youΓÇÖll have all eight buttons but four on one layer and four on the other.)
Once youΓÇÖve made all of them into buttons, show the two outline layers only (but not the filled layer) and select all. Cut them from those layers (you can delete them once their gone) and then Shift-paste them back into the fill layer.
After all this you should have the eight square fills under the eight square outlines that are buttons. We now need to do a little button work. Go to your Library, which should contain four queen movies and now eight wireframe buttons, and open one of the new buttons youΓÇÖve just created for editing. The first frame (the Up state) should have the outline in it. Click and drag that layer into the Over state, leaving the first frame blank, and then ctrl-drag to copy that frame into the Hit state as well.
The Hit state defines the area of the button that responds to a pointerΓÇÖs movement, so fill the outline in the Hit state with a color (any color - no-one will ever see it.) Go back to the Over state and apply whatever stroke treatment you want to that outline. I made mine two points wide with a nice bright blue to stand out. (DonΓÇÖt fill the outline.)
The button is invisible until the mouse rolls over it, when it will display a bright outline signifying the square the queen will land on. Carry out the same procedure for the remaining seven buttons, and when youΓÇÖve finished, return to the main timeline and stage. Note the transparent blue outlines representing the hidden buttons weΓÇÖve made.
Because we made this the way we did, the middle line, in between the two middle squares, should be perfectly straight up and down
